The 1980s and 90s

Jonah’s Journey

Jonah Kraut began his musical journey early on cello, playing in string quartets, symphony orchestras and solo. In high school, Jonah picked up guitar and bass and decided to set his path forward in motion.

2000s

Cutting Teeth in Boston

Graduating from the New England Conservatory of Music, Jonah was fortunate to work with a diverse cast of musical minds, such as Ran Blake, Steve Lacy, Gene Bertoncini, John Abercrombie, Bob Moses, Dominique Eade, and Ben Monder.

Nowhere but Nashville

Partly to due to Peter Guralnick’s stint as a visiting professor of creative non-fiction, Jonah, accumulating an overabundance of ideas, followed his path to Music City.

And NOW

Future Moment Ahead

Jonah aims to connect the tangle of musical threads, heeding the sounds, heard and unheard, to forge greater paths. Paths that others can follow in order, and disorder, to create their own.

A Lifetime’s Musical Journey

Endless revisions of the same song over and over again.

All of these styles all over the place

Leaving home. Chasing a sound. Finding a voice. Words of meaning, a voice that does not betray. Images that aim beyond the song, outside the music, and, if they can, broadening it, widening the song collection, the extended play, the long view. Contained or unfettered, in submerged thickets, a voice ruminates, voices commingle, and perhaps we can consider the uncertain today, the yesterday which until now remained unfixed. Moods, yet altered slightly. A hue – is it dark or light? – emerges, inviting, searching, in, within the moments, again, to be sought.

Each beat has sub divisions that may or may not exist. The end of the last measure does not mean the beginning of the next will occur.
